We recorded City Walls/Not Forgotten a while back during a one-off chunk of studio time and we're just now taking a serious look at what we've got.
The first step.
Getting into a recording frame of mind is like getting back on a bike after a long winter. Kind of exhilarating. Kinda rusty. Fresh.
What we've got sounded pretty good to me at this point - except the vocals, which I'll cut again. You can hear the room in the drum tracks. Nice room. I had some photos that I can no longer find. The substitute: Chas and Mike outside the rehearsal space. Going home.
Chris

click on the map

This site was recommended to me ages ago but despite my pessimism it keeps impressing me ("I'm a
professional cynic but my hearts not in it..." Damon Albarn) anyway, so I figure I'll pass it along.
The main point of interest is that they offer "news, background and feature articles from African
sources and journalists" and a lot of it. The newsletter is good. They'll send it to you twice a
week free of charge, edited by the Norwegian Council for Africa and with some of the articles shortened.
But they also have some cool reports, on the role of China for example, 2 or 3 projects on women's
issues in Africa (Kampala:), a whole section on issues surrounding oil production and an index
that helps you search thousands of other resources. If you can suspend your political cynicism one
more time I'll throw in that Encyclopedia Britannica, the LA Times and SIDA all give it the thumbs up.

Hey
yeah Africa was all that I dreamed, which meant in a way that it wasn't a massive surprise - but in another way it was a great surprise because nothing is ever as you dreamed it to be! So it was odd that at times you felt like you were walking through a movie set/National Geographic/beautiful coffee table book somehow. It's awe inspiring so you wanna hold it and stare at it or have it as though it was the book or a photo but you can't cause you're a tiny spec standing in the middle of it, it's all around you. You just get a little exasperated and sorta stand there all wide-eyed. Does that make sense? You sorta wanna jump out of your body so that you can see yourself there, cause you can't believe it's true.
Chris

Gonna go.
You have to register but all that means is that you need to input your first name and email address so it's pretty simple.
http://webapp.mcis.utoronto.ca/EventDet ... entId=6583
Chris

The Port Coloborne show was great. The Rivoli show was pretty good and we managed to record it as well, so perhaps they'll be some stuff released from that in the future.
We just did an interview and live off the floor recording for IndieCan.com which is a website and internet radio station. Joe is in the midst of figuring out when that will appear on the IndieCan site but I'll mention it again when it airs.
As for the band, Chas and the boys will be flying vocal-less for a few weeks while I'm away, but hauntingly beautiful melodies are sure to appear regardless. Can't wait to hear what they come up with.
Africa tomorrow.
Later
Chris
